Dr. Gupta earned his DM in gastroenterology from the renowned SGPGI, Lucknow. He did advanced endoscopy training at Medical University of South Carolina, USA.

His area of interest is liver diseases and endoscopy. He has presented at and chaired sessions in several national conferences. He established and served the department of gastroenterology at Max Superspeciality hospital, Dehradun for four years. He was the founder member and honorary treasurer of Uttarakhand chapter of Indian society of Gastroenterology.
